8.9 Questions on the Skeletal and Muscular System

8.9 Students Brainstormed a number of questions that they had in regard to The Skeletal and Muscular system. 

It is our challenge to see if we can answer them.

  3. what causes bruising?
    Bruising is caused when we bump into something. The reason it's purple/yellow/black is because it's a tear in the blood vessels under the skin.

    Bruises are the result of microscopic tears in blood vessels under the skin.

  6. Why do we have a coccyx bone?
    we use to have a tail (coccyx bone) and used it for balance but when we learnt to walk we didn't need it

    1. Good answer, but maybe you need to expand or think a little bit more - as it sounds like we are born with a tail and when we learn to walk as a baby it disappears. I know what yo mean... but you may need to a bit clearer in your explanation.

  8. Why do we blink? Tear glands in the outside corners of your eyes are always making tears, and the blinking of your eyelids wipes them away. That keeps the front surfaces of your eyes moist and clean.

  9. What is double jointed?
    Double Jointed is an unusual thing that happens in joints. It tends to occur in fingers,hands and some times arms and Legs.

  10. Why do you have to stretch? When you sleep, your muscles lose tone and fluid tends to pool along your back. Stretching helps to massage fluid gently back into the normal position.

  14. Humans blink about 25 times a minute. Blinking is the eyes way of getting rid of the tear glands on your eyes.

    A. Your bones produce new cells and blood vessels that build up on both ends of the break and rebuild the bone.

    Our teeth and bones are hard. They are made of calcium phosphate, they are white due to their chemical composition.

    it's when you lift weights it tears the muscle fibres, then the muscles heal.

    babies have more bones because as they grow many of our bones fuse together and form one bone instead of two

  24. Because if your muscles are not warm before you start exercising then they will not be able to move as flexibly as when they are warm and you are more likely to pull or strain a muscle.

  27. Is arthritis a myth?
    Arthritis is not a myth. Popping your knuckles will cause arthritis and is very common. Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. It can affects 1 or more joints.There are more than 100 different types of arthritis. ✌️
